The floating PV technology was first established in Italy, 2007 and around a year later, several international patents were acquired and the first floating PV system was installed before the end of 2008. By 2014, work had begun on expanding into the Asia Pacific region adding to today’s portfolio that consists of over a decade of project experience where designs continues to be improved upon.
In 2019 Upsolar Floating filed a patent application for “Gable structure for floating photovoltaic systems”. This patent protects the innovative “gable” project which allows a light and robust structural solution with a contextual containment of costs.

FPV is a rapidly growing technology. In 2008 we filed our first patent and in 2011 we built our first floating plants in Tuscany in competition with other pioneers. Plants around the world had not reached 1 MWp at the time. In 2017, the installed FPV systems were over 600 MWp and in 2018 almost 1 GWp were installed, mainly in China and Southeast Asia. This year we will probably reach a GWp of new plants.
Look at all our projects.
